In this section of "My Freshman Year" Nathan talks about foreign exchange students. She talks about some of the difficulties they have to face, such as rooming with Americans and being nice. The exchange students who were Japanese stated that some of the Americans weren't friendly towards them. One said that they made plans with another and they didn't follow through. This can be seen as unfriendly, although there could have been worse things that could've happened instead. I feel as though that is every where. It doesn't necessarily mean because they are American they are mean, It just depends on the person. Nathan spoke to one of the students about there roommate. They were explaining to her how they said "They are only roommates". So that may make someone who isn't used to being spoken to like that feel some type of way. Personally I like that. Your roommate doesn't have to be the person you spend every minute with. It is possible to live with someone who you don't talk to. Maybe the two were just different and that was what seemed best. Although there does needs to be rules and regulations for the room that need to put set in place in order for both individuals to live peacefully. Yet, it is much easier to live with someone you get along with because things will be less awkward and more smoothing.
The second story was interesting to me because it spoke about how a man named Mr. Guther speaks to people with a history of drug abuse. This man talks about things that can be applied to their daily life. He attempts to explain to them that they may find themselves in situations if they don't properly think through things. He tries to get them thinking about their consequences of abusing drugs. That way they don't end up hurting themselves again then having to stay in the program. Personally I think what Mr. Guther was speaking about was very true and relatable. Living in Philadelphia I see a lot of things. I see many people who suffer from using drugs and I see first hand the things they lose and the extremes they go to. No one should live their life like the way some of these people do. I feel like Mr. Guther tried to show some positivity and motivation which is a great thing!
